Cooking Supplement

When we got to pick the title out of the hat and I got cooking I almost fell off my seat. I am an avid enthusiast. I love cooking, watching people cook and eating! The title of the magazine is Excite. How do I make cooking exciting for an 18-32 age group? Sex...sex sells, sex excites....We had to produce 3 spreads, a masthead and cover design. I am really pleased with the results. The twist on the project was that we had been paired up with a second year photographer in the college to take our images. I was extremely lucky with my pairing and got Annabel Farquharson. She worked really well with me, knew what I wanted and together I think we have put together something awesome.

Final Stamps

*continued but I have went for a posterized look for my stamps, I think they work well but Ronnie is Absolutely Fabulous! Yehh!

Stamps

We were given a one day project for the RSA to create stamps that celebrate the influence of British fashion in a visually exciting way that is a joy to use on post.
The awards of winning this contest are immense, £5000 cash awards, a £2500 internship at Lewis Moberly and/or Pentagram for 12 weeks.

My idea was to iconise british stars that always wear dark glasses that have become so fashionable across the world recently. These iconic figures include Gok Wan, Vic Reeves, Ronnie Corbett and Alan Carr.

They didn't make them famous but they pull them off so well (and have done for years) and they are British!

These are a first draft, theses more to come!!!

Easter Egg

Our Easter Egg project was to say something to someone.

I said 'One Life Stand' to my boyfriend. It is barely there because he knows it.

A Book Jacket

This was an NHS book cover we were given as a project last year. This was my favourite out of the two we had to create. Very Paul Rand I thought to myself afterwards.

World of Music Magazine

We had a type, copy and image fitting exercise for a magazine layout. We had to show two covers of  the mag to show how issues would work from month to month.  We also had to create a dps of our own.

I really love my covers. Trying so hard to be clean and simple.

1st Week Back!

The WOW project continued and myself and Tadas Guobuzas were given two 1st years, Kinga and Stacey and we came up with our second brief of WOW. We decided that those little Daily WOWs came from being clean and took on a packaging project for a brand of toiletries. Here's the advert!

Back to the Monster Munch!!

Monster Munch was a YCN brief for last year. It became a huge project for myself, Cat Anderson and Rachel Patrick. We are the various monsters. Cat = blue, Rachel = red and Me = yellow!

We decided in order to catch the nostalgia for students who grew up with Monster Munch (and people that didn't) was to home into clubbing culture. We created a viral campaign that has worked so well for many companies. We needed a catchy song so Rachel's friend DJ Tim put together this mix for us and then we got to work, dancing shoes, a stop-motion set of pom-poms and the monsters on a dancefloor (created with my PATIENT!!! hands) and a lot of fun (and neon make-up) later and we had this, which I am distinctly proud of.

It works so well as a campaign to a set of events that would begin in Freshers week. Fun and Monster shaped corn snacks all round!

Summer Project

We were given the Words of Wisdom brief over the summer. Make a video depicting our W.O.W's for the up and coming first years.
What would we pass on?
What tips can we give?

I moved house in the summer and the full video was created from images I gathered when I was setting up my new wee flat, my new canvas.

I think the song depicts my floaty mood.

Hungry for Humans

The Graded Unit really took it out of me, I loved every minute but how strenuous it could have been? TWEAK was the word of the day and nudging things around was a painstaking process that I am going to have to get used to. I wanted to be super perfect but after all the logistical nightmares of the cards I am finally at peace with it, not sure if I would do it the same way again though! I could really have pushed the locality, provenance and quality of dinner! I created 5 posters that would be used as a teaser campaign that leads up to "Longpig?" which turns a charity into a culinary term.

The brief I translated into raising the profile of a charity dedicating themselves to dropping the stigmas surrounding Cannibals. I thought I could easily jump on the band wagon of the "foodie" nation. Know where your food comes from.

Tourism

We were asked to develop a concept driven Tourist Board campaign for Scotland. I came up with the idea of equations showing you your Perfect Day in Scotland (the sub-heading of the brief). I think they are fun, simple and would translate well in Eastern European countries. I see them placed on tubes, buses and trams. Quick glance or a short journey, you will think about them again.

Mag Project

By far one of my most successful and well received projects has been my Magazine/Editorial project. I chose to create a mag that would be a source of inspiration to me and others like me...design-orientated tattoo freaks!

Front cover 1...the strongest

Cover 2...1st issue

Spread one...

Spread two...

I thoroughly enjoyed this project, I created the spreads completely by hand, I wanted it to be scrapbooky- in a professional way, adding pieces to the images and illustrations and taping things down. I strived to stay away from David Carson-esque grundge, dirt and grime.

Liz Wolfe

I have fallen in love with 2 ladies in the last couple of days and Liz is one of them...mwah!

http://www.lizwolfe.com/index.html

a little bit creepy yet so inviting, warm, childlike and pleasing to the eye that I can't get enough of her twisted world. On her site she only has limited works but she is well published in Communication Arts and other French mags. I look forward to seeing more.

Minds...

Nice quote I heard today from Chris Arnold

My Song

This is a project I enjoyed a lot this year, I am mad about the Mamma's and the Papa's, have been my whole life and this song reminds me of my wee Gran so much. We had to connect with the song and relate to it. I think I became very literal but as she is not with us any more I found it relevant to get her down to a tea!

We were also given the chance to create this into a short film. I love stop motion and so far this is a little sketchy but would like to perfect it one day!
